The Media Aide to former Ogun State governor and serving Senator representing Ogun East, Gbenga Daniel, has accused Governor Dapo Abiodun of lacking the moral ground to issue contravention and quit notices on his principal’s properties, insisting that the governor’s own Iperu residence should be the first to face such action if the state was sincere.
The media Aide to the former governor, Steve Oliyide also accused Governor Abiodun of hypocrisy in the enforcement of building regulations following the sealing of Daniel’s residence and hotels in Sagamu.
Addressing journalists on Monday at the Asoludero Court, GRA Sagamu, Oliyide described the notices served on Daniel’s Asoludero Court and Conference Hotels last Friday as hasty, contradictory, and politically motivated.
He alleged that Governor Abiodun’s private residence in Iperu also fails to meet standard setback requirements, yet has not been subjected to any enforcement action.
According to Oliyide, the governor’s house, located along the Iperu-Ode-Isara Road, is built close to the highway without the required setback.
“Governor Dapo Abiodun lacks the moral right to serve us or anyone else with contravention and quit notices when his own residence is in breach. His house should have been the first to receive such a notice,” he said.
He further accused the governor of using selective enforcement of planning laws to create tension in the state.
“Governor Abiodun is trying to create chaos and confusion. We want to see a contravention notice on his Iperu residence,” Oliyide insisted.
PLATFORM TIMES gathered that Abiodun’s residence sits near a major road in his hometown, though it could not independently verify if the property violates any approved building plans.
Oliyide alleged that the government’s action was reminiscent of a “midnight invasion” on the premises of the governor’s wife’s property in Ijebu-Ode in September 2022, carried out at odd hours on a weekend — an approach he said raises suspicion about the state’s intentions.
According to him, the facilities in question were built in 2004 and had not undergone any new construction that could justify claims of contravention.
He queried why the state issued both a contravention notice and a quit notice on the same day, giving only three days for vacation without clarifying whether the period referred to working days or calendar days.
“Even the state’s 2022 Physical Planning, Urban Development, Regeneration and Building Production Management Law does not provide for issuing contravention and quit notices simultaneously,” Oliyide argued.
“The law also makes no provision for holding owners unprotected against loss of movable property in the event of demolition.”
The media aide challenged the state government to produce the three copies of the approved building plan in its custody, which he said were duly stamped and returned during Daniel’s tenure as governor.
“For God’s sake, where are the documents in the custody of Ogun State? The government cannot push its irresponsibility back to us,” Oliyide said.
“If they claim to be doing a land audit, what is the penalty for that? Is it a quit notice? This is clearly a misuse of the law.”
Oliyide maintained that there was no visible contravention on the properties and invited journalists to inspect the premises themselves.
He also hinted that the matter was already in the hands of Daniel’s lawyers, warning that the state’s action could set a dangerous precedent.
