eTranzact Supports NRS E-invoicing Phased Rollout in Nigeria

eTranzact has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting taxpayers with same-day onboarding and seamless electronic invoice uploads as the Nigeria Revenue Service intensifies the phased implementation of its e-invoicing regime.

The fintech firm made the pledge at the NRS E-invoicing Compliance Workshop and Stakeholder Engagement held on Tuesday, where stakeholders discussed practical steps to drive adoption of the new digital tax system.

An e-invoice is the electronic version of a commercial transaction between a supplier and a buyer. It captures key details such as the identities of both parties, item descriptions, quantities, pricing, applicable taxes, and total value.

The NRS plans to deploy the system in phases as part of efforts to strengthen tax administration and support Nigeria’s expanding digital economy.

Speaking at the event, the Executive Director of Government Relations and Special Projects at eTranzact Plc, Abubakar Achimugu, urged taxpayers to take advantage of the company’s digital solutions to ease compliance.

He explained, “We at eTranzact have had this collaboration with the NRS for so many years. We are the main major platform that has been doing all the revenue collection in the country, especially on the VAT funds, which have been very exceptional, very seamless, secure, and safe.

“In respect to e-invoicing, we are moving away from the manual process to digitalisation. The platform [eTranzact] is very seamless, and it’s user-friendly, regardless of your literacy level.

“This will also protect the average Nigerian from multiple taxation, such that as you are inputting and processing, you are getting a notification to see what exactly you have paid for and documenting that process as well.”

He added that the firm offers same-day onboarding to boost seamless uploads of e-invoices to the NRS portal: “At eTranzact, we have a multiple application channel, built both within the mobile wear and also at the front end, that has enabled and will enable this.

“eTranzact offers round-the-clock supply and same-day onboarding to facilitate effortless uploads of e-invoices to the NRS portal.”

On concerns around infrastructure and readiness, the Project Manager for E-invoicing at the NRS, Mohammed Bawa, said the Service had structured the rollout into phases to minimise disruption and ease adoption.

He said, “From the beginning of the project, we knew that there would be some challenges. The implementation is in three different phases: the large taxpayers, the medium, and the emerging.

“We have a three-year plan. Within the last year, we have been speaking directly to only large taxpayers, organising so many engagements for them to ease the adoption process because we know the transition is not that easy.

“Our focus for now is how to support taxpayers to see how easily they can comply, and that is why we have accredited so many service providers that will be there for the taxpayers when they have challenges.”

Bawa said the Service had been urging taxpayers to leverage accredited service providers such as eTranzact, noting that they had undergone due accreditation, demonstrated their solutions to the NRS, and received endorsement, adding that they were best placed to drive smooth, seamless adoption of the e-invoicing system.

He added that the NRS would sustain public sensitisation efforts to deepen understanding of the initiative and its benefits to the country.

The PUNCH earlier reported that the NRS announced the phased rollout of its electronic invoicing and fiscal monitoring system to strengthen tax administration, improve transparency, and promote voluntary compliance among businesses nationwide.

The public notice, signed by the Executive Chairman, Zacch Adedeji, on Monday, indicated that the E-Invoicing & Electronic Fiscal System, also known as the Merchant Buyer Solution, is being implemented in stages across taxpayer categories based on annual turnover thresholds.

According to the notice, the system officially went live on 1 August 2025, for large taxpayers following extensive stakeholder consultations and pilot deployments that began earlier in January 2025.

The service noted that implementation for this category was later extended to November 2025 to accommodate operational and transitional considerations.

Building on this progress, the agency said it will extend the rollout to medium and emerging taxpayer segments in a structured sequence that includes stakeholder engagement, pilot testing, go-live implementation, post-deployment review, and eventual compliance enforcement.

Medium taxpayers, businesses with an annual turnover between N1 bn and N5 bn, are expected to begin engagement and pilot phases in 2026, with full implementation scheduled for July 2026 and enforcement to follow in early 2027.

For emerging taxpayers with turnover below N1 bn, the rollout is scheduled to commence in 2027, with compliance enforcement projected for 2028.

The Service advised businesses to identify their categories and participate actively in onboarding, stating that enforcement will begin only after the engagement, pilot, and post-go-live review phases are completed.
