As a way of giving back to society, On Air Personality with the Benin, Edo State-based Independent Television and Radio, Sydney Iyore aka Sydney Shocker is set to commence a process of searching for his replica in the media industry.
Known for his energetic, witty and engaging style of presentation that covers entertainment and current affairs, including Social Trend with Sydney Shocker, the prominent broadcaster and actor has been under tremendous pressure to impact the younger generation, rather than let his talent remain in him alone. “As a good listener, I decided to embark on the search for the next Sydney Shocker,” he disclosed.
The award-winning OAP added: “I have a lot up my sleeve coming up. First and foremost, I’ve got a talent hunt show coming up, where I intend to search for another me. I’ve heard a couple of guys every now and then saying, ‘Shocker, you can’t just go with this talent, you can’t just die with this talent. You have to unleash this talent on some other persons. You have to allow other persons to inherit this talent of yours. Being a media impresario and entertainment guru, I said ‘okay, cool.’ So, I intend to do a talent hunt as part of giving back to the community. And it’s my intention to see the winners of the talent hunt being pushed to achieve their dreams.”
The graduate of Sociology, who has featured in a movie titled Enakhena, debuted on DStv in 2020 where he starred as Honorable Abebe. Today, he has been able to break the barriers in the media industry, earning himself the brand ambassador of Independent Television (ITV).
Tracing his career trajectory, Sydney Shocker stated: “I was a clueless guy who didn’t know what to do. I finished school, served, and was hanging out at the pub. I must always give Victor Imade his flowers.
He was an iconic personality back in the day. In the early 2000s, he walked up to me, and we started talking. He asked if I was a trained voice. And I said no.
“The fact is, I never knew what a trained voice meant. A trained voice means someone that’s been through the mill – who has been trained, tried and trusted. But I had no idea then. I was still a rookie, fresh from school. And I said no. And he said ‘well, you sound like one’.”
The next thing, Imade took Sydney Shocker to where he works – till today. Hear him: “He allowed me to go on the mic. And we talked about Tupac and B.I.G. The next thing was the phone banging. Everybody wanted to talk to me. And before I knew it, I fell in love with the job. And I asked him ‘Bro, is this a job?’ He said ‘yes, it is’. I said ‘please, I want it’. Sydney Shocker actually gave me a chance. He gave me a 10-minute segment to do my thing called Peep Zone. And that was where I found my feet on ground. Ever since then, it’s been a success story all the way.”
