Impeachment Plot: Adeleke Knocks Ogundoyin, Seeks Proof Of Alleged Bribes

.A former Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Adeolu Adeleke, has challenged the current Speaker of the House, Debo Ogundoyin, to publicly name individuals allegedly involved in offering him bribes in connection with an alleged plot to impeach Governor Seyi Makinde.

Adeleke, who presided over the Assembly between 2003 and 2007, also urged Ogundoyin to provide clear details of meetings and persons linked to the purported impeachment plan, insisting that the matter should not be left in the realm of speculation.

The former Speaker made the call in a statement issued in Ibadan on Tuesday, where he accused Ogundoyin of making contradictory remarks regarding the alleged plot.

Ogundoyin had earlier alleged that he was approached with financial inducements and political incentives by elements within the All Progressives Congress to facilitate the removal of the governor.

But Adeleke dismissed the claim, describing it as politically sensitive and capable of eroding public confidence in the legislature if not properly substantiated.
.

According to him, “The Speaker must identify those who attempted to compromise him with cash and disclose where and when such meetings held, including alleged discussions in Lagos.”

He further questioned inconsistencies in the Speaker’s public comments, suggesting that Ogundoyin’s statements at a stakeholders’ meeting reportedly differed from his subsequent press briefing.

“Was he coerced into making allegations against respected figures, including the Olubadan institution and the family of the late former governor, or is this part of a broader political calculation?” Adeleke queried.

The former lawmaker, who was a key figure during the political crisis that followed the 2005 impeachment of former Governor Rashidi Ladoja, warned that the integrity of the Assembly was at stake.

He stressed that unresolved allegations of inducement and impeachment plots could damage the credibility of the legislature and attract long-term political consequences.

Adeleke urged Ogundoyin to act with transparency, cautioning that failure to clarify his claims could deepen political tensions in the state and raise doubts about the motivations behind the allegations.

The controversy adds a fresh twist to ongoing political speculations in Oyo State, where concerns over succession politics and party rivalry continue to dominate public discourse.
