Nigerian vocal coach and music trainer, Naomi Classik, has shared insights into her journey in music and her mission to elevate standards in gospel music through structured voice training.
Speaking during an exclusive interaction with Saturday Sun, Classik revealed that her passion for music began in the church, where early exposure not only nurtured her singing ability but also sparked a deeper curiosity about vocal mechanics.
According to her, “While many focused solely on performance, I was driven to understand how the human voice works, a curiosity that eventually shaped my transition from being just a singer to becoming a professional voice trainer.”
As she took on leadership roles within the church, including serving as a music director, Classik said she identified a recurring gap among singers; passion without proper technique or structure.
“I noticed that many singers had passion and potential, but lacked structure, technique, and proper training,” she said.
This realisation, she noted, became a turning point, prompting her to focus on vocal development and training.
“I didn’t just want to be a singer anymore; I felt a responsibility to raise the standard of vocal excellence,” she added.
Classik explained that her training approach goes beyond technical exercises, incorporating emotional intelligence and spiritual awareness, while positioning the voice as a tool for identity and expression.
Her work has since gained international reach, with training sessions held in countries including Ghana and the United Kingdom.
Highlighting one of her key initiatives, she spoke about the Singer’s Boot Camp, a platform designed to provide intensive training in areas such as technique, breath control, performance, and vocal health.
Reaffirming her long-term vision, she said her goal is to raise a generation of singers who are not only talented but also well-trained, disciplined, and globally competitive.
“For me, excellence is not optional—it is the standard,” she stated.
