The Nigeria Democratic Congress has ratified former Anambra State governor, Peter Obi, as its presidential candidate for the 2027 general elections.
The decision was taken at the party’s national convention held in Abuja on Saturday, where delegates endorsed Obi amid cheers and applause.
The motion for his ratification was moved by the senator representing Anambra Central, Victor Umeh, and seconded by a former Deputy Senate President, Ovie Omo-Agege.
The endorsement, which was adopted through a voice vote, drew loud jubilation from party faithful gathered at the venue, signalling early momentum for the party ahead of the 2027 polls.
Obi, a former presidential candidate, is expected to spearhead the NDC’s campaign as the party seeks to position itself as a major contender in the next general election.
Details of his acceptance speech and the party’s broader campaign strategy were yet to be disclosed as of the time of filing this report.
