The new Commissioner of Police, Federal Capital Territory Command, Ahmed Sanusi, on Wednesday declared that crime would have no place in Abuja during his tenure, vowing to deploy proactive, intelligence-driven policing to flush out criminal elements.
Sanusi made the pledge during his maiden press briefing after formally assuming duty as the new FCT Commissioner of Police.
He said the command under his leadership would be professional, relentless and focused on preventing crime before it occurs.
“As many who are familiar with my professional approach will attest, crime does not thrive where I serve. During my tenure, crime will have no place in the FCT,” he stated.
The CP added that the command would leave no stone unturned in ensuring that criminal elements are identified, pursued and brought to justice.
“Under my leadership, the Command will be proactive, intelligence driven, professional and relentless in its operations. We shall leave no stone unturned in ensuring that criminal elements are identified, pursued, and flushed out of the FCT. My objective is not only to respond to crime but to deter and prevent it before it occurs,” he said.
Sanusi also warned criminals to leave the territory or face the full weight of the law.
“To those who have chosen the path of criminality, be advised that the Federal Capital Territory is no longer a safe haven for you. You are strongly warned to desist from all forms of unlawful activities, pack up, and exit the FCT, or be prepared to face the full weight and relentless arm of the law,” he added.
The commissioner further cautioned officers and men of the command against indiscipline and unprofessional conduct, stressing that personnel must maintain civility and uphold the highest standards while interacting with members of the public.
He also called on residents to support the police with timely information, noting that security remained a collective responsibility.
“Security is a collective responsibility, and the Command cannot do it alone. I operate an open door policy and encourage members of the public to engage with us, share information, and partner with us in safeguarding our communities,” Sanusi said.
He expressed appreciation to the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu, for the appointment, pledging to build on the achievements of his predecessor while strengthening the security architecture of the Federal Capital Territory.
The PUNCH reports that the Inspector-General of Police ordered the posting of senior officers to strategic positions across the Nigeria Police Force to strengthen operational efficiency, enhance leadership capacity and improve service delivery nationwide.
The redeployment, announced in a statement on Tuesday by the Force spokesman, DCP Anthony Placid, included the appointment of CP Ahmed Sanusi to the Federal Capital Territory Command, CP Olatunji Fatai to Lagos State Command, CP Morkwap Dongshal to Taraba State Command, CP Ahmed Bello to Zamfara State Command, CP Umar Fagge to Katsina State Command, and CP Hayatu Shaffa Hassan to Sokoto State Command.
