As part of measures to sustain the fight against crude oil theft and other forms of criminality in Delta territorial waters, the new Commander of Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) Delta, Commodore Shehu Tasiu, has assured all that “all efforts would be made to sustain the mandate of the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, in protecting national assets in the region.

Tasiu made the pledge while assuming office as the new Commander of NNS Delta, taking over from the outgoing Commodore Abdulahi Zubairu.

The brief handover ceremony held at the NNS Delta Command in Warri on Friday.

The event was witnessed by the Flag Officer Commanding Central Naval Command, Rear Admiral Suleiman Ibrahim.

In his address at the occasion, Tasiu maintained that he would “key into the CNS mandate amid partnership with stakeholders.”

He also promised to sustain synergy with private security outfits in the region, while calling on host communities to always furnish the Navy with useful information to protect critical assets.

According to him, he was “poised to improve on the performance of the former commander as well as introduce a new approach in protecting national assets in the area of operation.”

Before his appointment as the new NNS Delta commander, Commodore Shehu Tasiu served as the Base Operations Officer of the command and as Commanding Officer of the Forward Operating Base, Escravos.
