The Ogun State Police Command on Wednesday said its operatives recovered three stolen vehicles and arrested two suspected armed robbers during a special operation launched to combat rising cases of armed robbery in Ifo and Sango areas of the state.
Recovered during the operation were two live cartridges, foreign currencies, one So-Safe Corps uniform, one MP3 sound system and one plasma television set.
The Divisional Police Officers for Ifo and Sango divisions, CSP Kamorudeen Olabisi and CSP Idowu Olatunji, respectively, were said to have led the operations in their jurisdictions.
The spokesperson for the state police command, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, disclosed this in a statement made available to journalists on Wednesday.
The latest operation comes amid renewed efforts by security agencies across Ogun State to curb incidents of armed robbery, vehicle snatching and other violent crimes in border communities and commercial hubs around Sango-Ota and Ifo.

Babaseyi said the breakthrough followed sustained intelligence-led investigations into earlier reported cases of armed robbery and vehicle snatching within the two divisions.
He explained, “Acting on credible intelligence on Saturday, 10th May 2026, detectives of Ifo Division stormed a suspected criminal hideout in Adeleye Area, Itele, Ota, where stolen vehicles were allegedly concealed.
“On arrival at about 4:00 p.m., operatives sighted the suspected stolen vehicles within the premises and immediately cordoned off the area, laying strategic ambush for the occupants who were not present at the time.
“The operation yielded success at about 10:35 p.m. with the arrest of Mohammed Adeniyi Usman alias ‘Mandela’ ‘M’, aged 48 years.
“A search of the premises led to the recovery of one Toyota Corolla belonging to a complainant, one Toyota Venza allegedly stolen at gunpoint on 26th April 2026 at Ilese-Awo, Abeokuta, and one Honda Crosstour reportedly snatched during a separate armed robbery operation at Ijoko, Ota.”
Babaseyi said preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect is part of a wider criminal syndicate involved in armed robbery and vehicle snatching within Ogun State and beyond.
He added that similarly, on Sunday, 11th May 2026, at about 5:00 p.m., operatives of Ifo and Sango divisions acting on intelligence went to Sango-Ota Under Bridge, where another suspect, Abiodun Ogunojukan alias “Ilasa” ‘M’, aged 38 years, was apprehended.
The suspect reportedly confessed to his involvement in the crimes and assisted the police with useful information to track down other fleeing members of the syndicate and recover additional stolen vehicles.
All recovered exhibits were said to have been properly documented and secured.
The case has also been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further discreet investigation and prosecution.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the operatives for their professionalism, intelligence-led policing approach and swift response.
The CP reiterated the command’s unwavering commitment to the protection of lives and property and the sustained clampdown on criminal elements across the state.
Members of the public were also urged to remain vigilant and continue to support security agencies with timely and credible information through the Ogun State Police Command emergency lines.
In April, the Kwara State Police Command recovered a Toyota Matrix vehicle allegedly stolen from a parking space earlier in the day.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, said the vehicle was recovered using modern policing technology along the Ilorin–Jebba Road later in the evening.
