The member representing Isiala Ngwa North and South Federal Constituency, Ginger Onwusibe, has said Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, will not oppose the second-term re-election bid of President Bola Tinubu.
Onwusibe spoke on Sunday at Lohum Umuimenyi in Bende Local Government Area during the flag-off of “Project Switch On Bende,” facilitated by the Abia State Chief Liaison Officer in Abuja, Chief Frank Chinasa.
The lawmaker said both Tinubu and Otti, based on their performance, had earned a second term.
He said, “What I have said about Mr President is my personal opinion, and I can tell you the governor will not oppose Mr President’s second term bid, and it’s the governor in Abia State here that has the capacity to deliver Mr President.
“I started politics in 1999. I was a Special Adviser in Governor Orji Uzor Kalu’s tenure. I also served in Governor T.A. Orji’s administration as both a Special Assistant and a Local Government chairman. I equally served in Governor Okezie Ikpeazu’s tenure as Local Government chairman—transition and elected—and member of the House of Assembly. I can tell you with all sense of responsibility that Alex Otti has outperformed all these governors and because of that he has earned his second tenure.”
Onwusibe, a chieftain of the Labour Party in the state, commended Chinasa for attracting the solar lighting project, adding that he would do more if elected into a representative position.
In his remarks, Chinasa said the project was aimed at restoring public confidence in governance and improving security in the area.
He said the initiative would create safer streets and enable traders to extend their business hours, adding that 486 solar-powered street lights had been installed across Uzuakoli and Umuimenyi Ward within a few months.
“This project is more than the installation of solar street lights. It is about restoring confidence in governance. It is about creating safer streets for our children, enabling our traders to extend their businesses into the night, and giving our communities a renewed sense of belonging and pride.
“Our mission is clear—to ensure that every ward, every community, and every street in Bende Federal Constituency feels the impact of light. Because where there is light, there is security. Where there is light, there is opportunity. And where there is light, there is life.
“This initiative also aligns strongly with the developmental vision of our dear Governor, Dr Alex Otti, whose commitment to transforming Abia State continues to inspire us to do more for our people,” he said.
Chinasa added that the project was facilitated with the support of the Niger Delta Development Commission under its “Operation Light Up the Niger Delta” programme.
He urged residents and community leaders to take ownership of the facilities and protect them.
In separate remarks, the Mayor of Bende Local Government Area, Uwabunkeonye Bassey, and the chairman of the occasion, Mr Johnson Chukwu, commended Chinasa for facilitating the project.
Chukwu said, “I’m not a politician, but I love good governance. No matter the amount of money one has, what matters is the number of lives one is able to touch.
“Chinasa has earned the respect of our people. If he can use his personal contact to give us solar light, if we give him political power, he will do more.”
