A Peoples Democratic Party governorship aspirant in Bauchi State, Usman Adamu, has declared that the PDP remains the strongest political party in the state ahead of the 2027 elections, expressing confidence that the party will emerge victorious.
Adamu, while submitting his expression of interest and nomination forms at Wadata Plaza, Abuja, on Saturday, said that despite the defection of Governor Bala Mohammed to the Allied Peoples Movement and moves to impose a successor, the people of Bauchi are wise enough to choose what they want.
He stated, “Power and authority belong to God, and only he can decide the future with certainty. So I have no reliance on whoever you think. As far as I have that belief in God, I know God can do it. There is God who did it for everyone, and I will not be an exception. So I have this reliance. Once there is God, there is opportunity, and it is going to be actualised. So there is no reliance on whoever you think, because Bauchi people are very wise, and they can choose what they want for themselves.
“Bauchi State people are very wise. Even the former governor defeated an incumbent governor, so talk less of defeating a person who was imposed by the governor. I don’t think that will be a problem in Bauchi. We have one party, as far as I am concerned, in Bauchi. As I always say, there is one party in Bauchi, which is the PDP. And for your information, PDP has its stronghold in Bauchi, and most of the people of Bauchi are PDP members. You cannot change them from that position. So I assure you, success will be ours under PDP.
“Let me just clear one more issue. There are several rumours that PDP is having problems and that they are caught up in issues. As a layman, I am not a lawyer by profession, but I always say that if you are contesting under a platform, what you need to do, as a layman, is visit the INEC website. Who is the official leader of a party recognised by INEC? And I believe everybody has checked. Honourable Abdurahman Mohammed Takushara is leading the party.
“So those splinter groups saying they want to start selling forms, you can sell your forms. Even scammers are selling forms everywhere. But Nigerians know the truth, PDP is one, and we are strong. And believe me, after the primaries, we will be more united, and we will pose a very great threat to the Bauchi State Government.”
The Nyesom Wike-backed faction of the PDP concluded the sale of expression of interest and nomination forms on May 4, while the submission of forms is expected to end by midnight on May 9.
The governorship primary election has been scheduled for May 24.
