Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable would always continue to pull his survival strings from controversy. The street-hop artist who recently got beaten in a celebrity boxing match by streamer, Cater Efe, has stirred conversation about shifts in the Nigerian music industry, urging established acts to make room for emerging talents.
In a chat delivered in pidgin during a livestream session with BBNaija star, Whitemoney, Portable argued that every generation benefits from those before them stepping aside.
He cited earlier figures such as D’banj, Don Jazzy, Flavour, and KCee, noting that their era created opportunities for music stars like Wizkid, Davido, Olamide, and Burna Boy to rise.
Portable further referenced Timaya as an example of an artist who made space for others, urging current industry leaders to do the same. According to the ZaaZoo Zehh crooner, refusing to allow new talents to thrive could lead to being pushed aside by the next wave of artists.
Portable also during the livestream admitted the one thing Olamide gave him that Davido has refused to grant, comparing his experiences with Olamide and Davido, saying Olamide gave him a life-changing opportunity while Davido only offered advice and meals.
According to the singer, Olamide’s support directly contributed to his breakthrough in the music industry. Portable said: “The very first day I met Olamide, he gave me a verse. He didn’t buy me food, he gave me my future.”
However, Portable had less flattering remarks for Davido, suggesting that their interactions did not lead to meaningful career progress. He said: “You took me to a restaurant to eat and that’s where you started giving me bad advice. If you wanted to help, you’d have helped.”
His comments sparked mixed reactions online as he praised Olamide, with fans divided over Portable’s criticism of Davido and praise for Olamide.
Portable, known for his outspoken personality and controversial statements, has repeatedly made headlines for public disputes, emotional outbursts, and social media rants involving fellow celebrities and music industry figures.
