The Apex Leadership of the All Progressives Congress in Ifo Local Government Area of Ogun State has adopted a former member of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Motunrayo Adijat Adeleye, as its consensus candidate for the House of Representatives.
The decision followed a closed-door meeting involving key stakeholders and aspirants vying for the ticket, in what party leaders described as a strategic move to foster unity and strengthen the party’s chances ahead of the elections.
The meeting, presided over by the Chairman of the Apex Leaders, Chief Joju Fadairo, had in attendance prominent figures within the party, including Chief Derin Adebiyi, a former Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Olakunle Oluomo, and the Ifo Local Government APC Chairman, Olumide Oduwole, among others.
Addressing journalists after the meeting, Fadairo said the consensus arrangement was reached after extensive consultations with all aspirants, stressing that the move was necessary to preserve internal cohesion and present a formidable front for the polls.
He commended the aspirants for demonstrating maturity and party loyalty, noting that their willingness to step down in the interest of unity reflected the progressive ideals of the APC.
According to him, “The decision was taken in the overall interest of the party. We are focused on unity, inclusiveness and electoral victory. All aspirants showed remarkable understanding and commitment to the party’s success.”
Other aspirants, including Lateef Adesina, Olaniran Olalekan, popularly known as BOOM, and Ademola Evans, also expressed support for the consensus arrangement, pledging to work for Adeleye’s emergence at both the primary and general elections.
In her acceptance remarks, Adeleye described her adoption as humbling, saying it places on her a greater responsibility to deliver effective representation.
She lauded the leadership for what she called a transparent and consultative process, while also appreciating her co-aspirants for their support and sacrifice.
“I am deeply honoured by this decision. It is a call to service and greater commitment to the people. I will not take this trust for granted,” she said.
Adeleye further assured party members and constituents of her resolve to uphold the values of the APC and work towards impactful representation if elected.
