Former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, Timi Frank, has called for the release of businessman Tunde Ayeni and urged authorities to ensure the safety and rights of former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai.
In a statement issued on his Facebook page on Sunday, Frank expressed concern over the detention of El-Rufai and Ayeni, urging security agencies and judicial authorities to uphold fairness and due process.
“I received information suggesting concerns about the safety and treatment of Nasir El-Rufai while in detention, and I believe the authorities must ensure his protection and guarantee that justice is carried out transparently,” Frank said.
He called on security agencies and relevant institutions to ensure that no harm comes to the former governor.
“I urge the relevant authorities to ensure that El-Rufai’s rights and safety are protected at all times,” he stated.
Frank also expressed concern about the conditions surrounding the detention of some individuals facing investigations, saying judicial processes should remain impartial.
“Our judiciary must not allow itself to be used as an instrument of intimidation against those who hold differing political opinions,” he said.

The political activist maintained that anti-corruption efforts should be fair and non-selective.
“I support the fight against corruption, but it must be fair, balanced, and free from political persecution,” Frank stated.
He questioned what he described as unequal treatment of some politically exposed persons facing investigations or allegations.
“Is El-Rufai the only former governor in Nigeria?” Frank asked, adding that some former governors were also undergoing investigations.
Frank also called for the release of businessman Tunde Ayeni, saying his case should be handled fairly and transparently.
“Tunde Ayeni is a businessman, not a politician. His case should be handled fairly and transparently in line with the rule of law,” he said.
He further urged anti-graft agencies and government institutions to avoid actions capable of increasing political tension in the country.
“If this pattern continues, it could deepen public distrust and concerns about democratic governance. Agencies such as the ICPC and EFCC must act in ways that strengthen public confidence,” Frank added.
The former APC spokesman also raised concerns about election integrity and the treatment of opposition figures ahead of future elections.
“Election credibility is essential not only for democracy but also for national stability and conflict prevention,” he stated.
Frank called on the international community and human rights organisations to closely monitor developments in Nigeria.
“It is for this reason that I call on the international community and global human rights organisations to pay close attention to developments in Nigeria and support the protection of democratic freedoms and human rights,” he said.
