A member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Tunji Akinosi, has urged Nigerians not to panic over a reported threat by former U.S. President Donald Trump, allegedly over claims of genocide against Christians in Nigeria.

Akinosi, who represents Ado Odo/Ota Federal Constituency, spoke on the sidelines of the 2025 Ayetoro Yewa Day celebration and the launch of a N1 billion Arcade and Civic Centre.

He questioned the timing of the alleged threat, noting that Nigeria is making significant progress in tackling insecurity and improving economic indicators.

“Insecurity is everywhere in Nigeria, and it did not start with the present administration. This has been going on for about 20 years, but this administration has taken the bull by the horns,” Akinosi said.

“President Tinubu is leading decisively, and there is no cause for alarm. Whatever has been said by President Trump is more of a political declaration.”

Akinosi also highlighted that the government’s efforts in security are yielding results. “These mad people killing people do not know race, colour, or religion.

They are killing Nigerians, and Mr. President remains resolute in tackling insecurity. We are supporting him fully in the National Assembly,” he added.

Also speaking at the event, the Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr. Iziaq Salako, praised the federal government’s focus on people-oriented projects.

He revealed that ₦550 billion has been invested in road projects across the Yewa area of Ogun State in the past two years.

“If you look around, you will see that we have never had it this good in Ogun West. A total of 163 kilometers of roads have been awarded, covering four local governments,” Salako said.

The event attracted dignitaries from across the state, including Hon. Gboyega Isiaka, representing Yewa North/Imeko Afon Federal Constituency, Ogun House of Assembly member Adegoke Adeyanju, former Speaker Suraji Ishola, and Chairman of IBD Group of Companies, Ibrahim Egungbohun.

They commended the federal government’s initiatives to enhance infrastructure and improve the welfare of Nigerians.
