Atiku’s Son-in-law Denies EFCC Allegations, Alleges Political Witch-hunt

Bashir Abdullahi Haske, son-in-law to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has dismissed claims by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) that he is evading arrest, describing the allegations as false and politically motivated.

The businessman, who was recently declared wanted by the anti-graft agency over alleged multi-million-dollar money laundering and criminal conspiracy, said contrary to EFCC’s position, he had honoured their invitation and provided all necessary documents to defend the legitimacy of his financial dealings.

Haske, in a statement released by his media office on Tuesday, insisted that the EFCC’s action was a calculated attempt to tarnish his image and intimidate him for political reasons.

“The EFCC is fully aware that I have nothing to hide. I honoured their summons, appeared before investigators, and submitted oral and documentary evidence to support the legitimacy of my transactions.

“It is therefore shocking and disingenuous for them to now claim I am running away,” Haske said.

The businessman further accused the commission of maltreating him in custody after he had fulfilled stringent bail conditions.

He alleged that he was unlawfully detained until his health deteriorated, leading to a near collapse while in custody.

According to him, he was only granted bail when his worsening medical condition raised concerns over his survival, and he is currently undergoing treatment.

“It is disturbing that my health crisis, which was precipitated by the EFCC’s own misconduct, is now being twisted to paint me as a fugitive,” he added.

The EFCC had earlier linked Haske to suspicious transactions allegedly traced to contracts involving the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL).

The agency declared him wanted after alleging that he failed to cooperate with ongoing investigations.

Haske, however, maintained that he would not be intimidated, stressing that he remained committed to clearing his name from what he described as “baseless and politically induced allegations.”
