A United Kingdom–based media delegation from Channel 4 News, led by Senior Producer and Team Leader Mr. Freddie Gower, has visited the headquarters of the Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), in Maiduguri, Borno State.

The visit was aimed at presenting to the international community the significant successes achieved by the Nigerian Armed Forces in the fight against terrorism.

In a post by the Media Information Officer Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East) Operation HADIN KAI, Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba on the Nigerian Army’s X handle on Tuesday, speaking during the visit, Gower explained that Channel 4 News, headquartered in London, reaches a global audience and focuses on major stories of human interest, terrorism, and asymmetric warfare.

“We are here to gain first-hand insight into the operations and achievements of the Nigerian Armed Forces.

“This visit will allow us to engage directly with commanders and local communities, and present an accurate account of the progress being made,” he added.

Gower expressed gratitude to the Theatre Commander for the warm reception and described the visit as both insightful and rewarding.

“The operational briefings were detailed and comprehensive, providing a clear understanding of OPHK’s achievements, challenges, and progress in counter-terrorism operations,” he added.

In response, the Theatre Commander of the Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI, Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar, reiterated the Command’s mandate to restore normalcy across the North East and facilitate socio-economic activities.

“We are committed to sustaining and intensifying stabilisation operations across the theatre,” Major General Abubakar said.

“Our priority is the protection of vulnerable communities, and we have deliberately intensified non-kinetic operations to achieve this,” he added.

He noted that the command’s efforts have led to the return of thousands of internally displaced persons to their ancestral homes, while improved security conditions have supported farm patrols and enhanced food security.

“Security improvements have also ensured sustained protection for humanitarian agencies providing medical care, nutrition services, vaccinations, and immunisation programmes,” he added.

Abubakar further stated that the security situation in the North East has been largely contained through ongoing operations that have significantly degraded terrorist enclaves.

“We continue to leverage cooperation with international partners, including the British Military Advisory and Training Team, to ensure continued progress,” he said.

The visit featured detailed operational briefings, signing of the visitors’ register, presentation of souvenirs, and a group photograph.
