Eric Chelle will remain head coach of Nigeria’s Super Eagles after Olympique Marseille appointed a new manager.

Chelle had been linked with the Ligue 1 job following the dismissal of Roberto De Zerbi two weeks ago.

Speculation over his future intensified after the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in January.

His name was also mentioned in connection with national team vacancies in Angola, Tunisia and Algeria.

The rumours gained further momentum on February 19 when Chelle joined a new football agency, a move widely interpreted as a potential signal of change.

Marseille have now confirmed the appointment of Habib Beye as head coach, ending talk of a move to the Stade Vélodrome.

The uncertainty had raised questions over Chelle’s position with Nigeria, especially with a FIFA international window scheduled next month.

Nigeria is also awaiting the outcome of a FIFA inquiry into the DR Congo case, which could determine whether the Super Eagles secure a place in the World Cup playoffs.

Chelle has one year left on his contract, and the Nigeria Football Federation is yet to agree an extension.

While the federation has indicated interest in retaining him, no formal renewal has been announced.

Interest from other African nations remains, with some able to offer World Cup participation this year.
