The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, has hosted a grand wedding for his son, Samuel, in Benue State, just days after welcoming his own new wife, Zaynab Ngohemba, a former wife of the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, into the family home.

The ex-governor’s son’s wedding, held in Benue State, attracted significant attention from Nigeria’s political elite, with Vice President Kashim Shettima representing President Bola Tinubu at the event.

The Vice President’s attendance was confirmed by the Spokesman and Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications (Office of the Vice President), Stanley Nkwocha, in a statement via X on Sunday.

“Vice President Kashim Shettima, representing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has arrived in Benue State to grace the wedding reception of the son of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume,” Nkwocha wrote.

He added that the marriage is between Akume’s son, Samuel Aondoakura, and the daughter of a prominent engineer.

“The solemnization of the holy matrimony is between Samuel Aondoakura and Deborah Ershima, the daughter of Engineer Msula Atoga.

“The Vice President was welcomed to the state by the SGF and the Governor of Benue State, Dr Hyacinth Alia, among other dignitaries of the state,” the presidential aide said.

Akume’s own wedding to Zaynab, which took place quietly last year, came as a surprise to many.

The marriage was announced on Friday in a celebratory Facebook post by Abraham Dajoh, a member of the Akume Dajoh family from Mbakor, Benue State.

“We, the entire Dajoh family, happily join our daddy, uncle and brother, His Excellency, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Sen. George Akume Jugu Dajoh, in welcoming his new and uncommon wife, Queen Zaynab Ngohemba-George Akume Dajoh, into the Dajoh family,” the post read.

Zaynab was previously married to the Ooni of Ife in a widely publicised traditional ceremony held in Benin City on March 12, 2016, followed by a reception in Ile-Ife the next day.

The marriage lasted 17 months, ending in August 2017. She later confirmed the separation publicly, reverted to her maiden name, and relocated to Doha, Qatar, where she focused on philanthropic activities.

In subsequent years, reports linked her to a wealthy Arab prince, with whom she reportedly welcomed a daughter in 2022.

The couple appeared together at Akume’s 72nd birthday celebrations on Saturday, drawing public attention to their union.
