March 10, (THEWILL) — Authorities in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have confirmed they are battling a fire at the Ruwais industrial complex in Abu Dhabi, following a reported drone attack, raising fresh security concerns across the Gulf region.
In a statement, the Abu Dhabi Government Media Office said emergency teams were working to contain the blaze at the sprawling facility, which houses the largest single oil refinery in the Middle East. Officials, however, said there was no immediate confirmation that the refinery itself had been directly struck in the attack.
The Ruwais industrial complex, located more than 230 kilometres from Abu Dhabi city, is a key component of the UAE’s oil and petrochemical infrastructure. Authorities have yet to provide details on the extent of the damage or whether there were casualties from the incident.
The development comes amid heightened tensions across the region. Kamal Kharazi, foreign policy adviser to Iran’s Supreme Leader, said Tehran believes it can sustain the conflict for a prolonged period and sees little room for renewed diplomacy with the United States.
Kharazi described the ongoing confrontation as an “existential war” for Iran and warned that Tehran was prepared to continue fighting until Washington and its allies abandon the conflict. He also cautioned that if no ceasefire is reached, the economic consequences of the conflict could eventually force external powers to intervene.
