April 27, (THEWILL) — King Charles III and Queen Camilla are set to arrive today, April 27, in the United States for a four-day state visit marking 250 years of American independence.
Hosted by Donald Trump and Melania Trump, the trip, running through April 30, will go ahead as planned despite a recent gun attack at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner.
The visit will begin with a private tea at the White House, followed by a tour of the South Lawn beehive and a garden party at the British ambassador’s residence.
On Tuesday, a formal arrival ceremony will feature military honors and a 21-gun salute. Later that evening, a black-tie State Dinner in the East Room is expected to draw major political and cultural figures.
Queen Camilla and Melania Trump will also host an AI-focused education event, where students will use virtual reality to explore British and American history.
King Charles III is also expected to address Congress, becoming only the second British monarch to do so after Queen Elizabeth II in 1991.
The itinerary will then move to New York, where the couple will visit the 9/11 Memorial & Museum on Wednesday to meet first responders and families of victims of the September 11 attacks, alongside Mayor Zohran Mamdani.
Queen Camilla will also attend a literary event marking 100 years of Winnie-the-Pooh at the New York Public Library, where she will present a handcrafted “Roo” toy to complete the original set that inspired the stories.
The tour will also include a stop in Virginia, where King Charles III will attend a community block party celebrating the anniversary with local food, music, and art.
On Thursday, the King and Queen will return to Washington, D.C., where the visit will end with an official farewell at the South Portico of the White House. The tour will then continue to Bermuda for further engagements.
The visit blends tradition, culture, and modern elements, making it both a diplomatic milestone and a major social event.
