March 18, (THEWILL) — Israel says it has killed Iran’s Intelligence Minister, Esmaeil Khatib, in an overnight airstrike, marking a sharp escalation in tensions between the two regional rivals.

The claim follows earlier Israeli reports of the deaths of Ali Larijani and Gholamreza Soleimani.

Israeli Defence Minister, Israel Katz, said the intelligence chief was “eliminated” in the strike, signalling an expansion of Israel’s campaign against Iran’s top security leadership.

However, Iranian authorities have yet to confirm Khatib’s reported killing.

Khatib, appointed in 2021, is widely regarded as one of the most powerful figures in Iran’s security architecture, overseeing key intelligence operations at home and abroad.

The reported assassination comes amid a rapidly intensifying conflict, with Israel targeting senior Iranian figures and assets, while Tehran has responded with missile strikes on Israeli territory and across the region.
