D.S. Adegbenro ICT Polytechnic, Itori-Ewekoro, Ogun State, on Thursday celebrated the institution’s 20th anniversary of academic operations, matriculating 2,400 fresh students for the 2025/2026 academic session.
As gathered during rhe ceremony, held at the polytechnic’s Mass Communication Complex, 1,300 National Diploma, ND, and 1,100 Higher National Diploma, HND, students were admitted across the Schools of Engineering and Sciences, Management Sciences, Communication and Information Technology, and Environmental Studies.
Describing the occasion as a milestone, the Rector, Prof. Adegoke Akeem Rauf, said the 20th matriculation represented more than an academic ritual.
In his words, this occasion marks not just another academic ritual, but a significant milestone in the life of our great institution, a celebration of two decades of academic excellence, resilience and transformative impact.
Addressing the newly admitted students, Prof. Rauf urged them to embrace curiosity, discipline, and a determination to excel, warning that success in the polytechnic would demand more than intelligence.
He further charged them to acquire practical and digital skills alongside their academic pursuits and to build networks that would support their future careers.
On discipline, the Rector was unequivocal, stressing that the institution maintained zero tolerance for cultism, examination malpractice, and hooliganism, warning that any conduct threatening the polytechnic’s peace and reputation would not be condoned.
Speaking at the event, the Chairman of the Governing Council, Ambassador Toye Okanlawon, represented by council member Dr. Kayode Olunuga, also congratulated the matriculating students while urging them to shun social vices.
“Be ambassadors of excellence, not only within these walls but also in your host communities,” Olunuga quoted the council chairman as saying.
Ambassador Okanlawon, in his address, therefore assured that the Governing Council would in its second term focus on infrastructure modernisation, academic programme enhancement, improved staff welfare, and strategic industry partnerships to position the polytechnic as a premier hub for innovation.
As a guest, the Divisional Police Officer for Itori, Dapo Ojekunle, who also addressed the students, warned against secret cult membership, urging the fresh students to remain law-abiding within the school and outside it.
Ojekunle also cautioned them against spreading unverified information on social media and cyber bullying.
Also present was Mrs. Mary Aminat Duze, Director of Quality Assurance and Teachers Development in the Ogun State Ministry of Education, who represented the State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, at the event.
