April 05, (THEWILL) — After spending two days behind enemy lines in Iran, a United States airman has been successfully rescued by elite special forces, following the downing of an F-15E fighter jet, in a daring high-risk operation confirmed by President Donald Trump.
The airman, who ejected over hostile territory after the aircraft was struck by Iranian fire, reportedly evaded capture while US forces mounted an intensive search and recovery effort under extremely dangerous conditions.
Announcing the development on Truth Social, Trump declared, “WE GOT HIM!”, describing the operation as one of the most daring rescue missions in US history. He added that the rescued crew member sustained injuries during the ordeal but is expected to recover fully.
“WE WILL NEVER LEAVE AN AMERICAN WARFIGHTER BEHIND!” the president stated, reaffirming a core US military principle.
According to American media reports citing senior officials, the operation was executed by a specialised commando unit with extensive air support, ensuring both precision and protection throughout the mission. All US forces involved were said to have safely exited Iranian territory after the successful extraction.
The incident followed escalating hostilities that saw two US aircraft come under attack. The F-15E, a two-seat strike fighter, was brought down over Iran on Friday, while a separate A-10 Warthog aircraft was also hit and reportedly crashed over Kuwait, with its pilot ejecting safely.
The search for the missing crew member triggered a race against Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), raising the stakes amid fears that the airman could be captured.
In a strategic twist, the Central Intelligence Agency is reported to have carried out a deception campaign, spreading misinformation within Iran that the airman had already been located and moved. The tactic helped divert attention and created an opportunity for US forces to carry out the rescue.
Once the airman’s location was confirmed, Trump authorised an immediate extraction, leading to the swift deployment of special forces and the successful recovery.
Meanwhile, tensions spilt into Kuwait, where Iranian drone strikes targeted key infrastructure, including power and water desalination plants, causing significant damage. Authorities confirmed that no casualties were recorded.
The Kuwait Petroleum Corporation also reported a fire at its Shuwaikh oil sector complex following a drone attack, while a government office facility sustained structural damage in a separate strike—again with no reported injuries.
