Governor Alex Otti has paid an unscheduled visit to Nigerian Breweries Plc in Aba, Abia State, to assess the extent of damage to the company after a fire engulfed part of the facility.
Speaking at the facility in Aba, Governor Otti commended the swift response and efforts of the State Fire Service, describing the intervention as timely and effective.
The inferno broke out on Thursday afternoon around 3:20 p.m and raged till 6.00 pm when it was brought under control. However, the incident was without.
Gov. Otti emphasised the critical importance of sustained safety measures and preparedness against emergency incidents.
“Looking at that place, it’s probably the last place that you’ll expect to have a fire incident because it was just on its own, in an open field, so anything could have happened,” he said.
While conducting the Governor round the affected area, the Brewery Manager, represented by the Chief Engineer of the Nigerian Breweries Plc, Benjamin Okore, said the affected area of the inferno was not part of the main brewing plant.
He stated that the company activated its emergency response immediately after the fire was detected.
