Emmanuel Olotu, the member representing Ifako Ijaiye Constituency II at the Lagos State House of Assembly, has won the All Progressives Congress primary election to contest the seat in the forthcoming general election.
He defeated his closest rival, Makinde, by 154 votes across three wards.
Olotu, who polled a total of 1,440 votes against Makinde’s 1,286, attributed his emergence to the support of party members and residents of Ojokoro in Ifako Ijaiye.
The statement read, “Hon. Olotu described his emergence as the APC candidate for Ifako Ijaiye Constituency II as a collective victory for the people and a reflection of the unity, resilience and democratic spirit of the APC family across the constituency.
“He thanked party members for the confidence reposed in his leadership and assured them of his continued dedication to quality representation, grassroots development and the advancement of the constituency.”
The primary was conducted across five wards, though elections in two, Ward G and Ward H, were declared inconclusive due to disruptions.
In Ward G, results were cancelled after votes cast exceeded the number of accredited voters.
In Ward H, the process was disrupted by alleged political interference despite the presence of electoral officials.
In the three wards where voting was completed, Olotu won Ward I(E) with 513 votes to Makinde’s 303 and Ward K with 685 votes to Makinde’s 650. Makinde, however, won Ward J(F) with 333 votes to Olotu’s 241.
The statement further read, “Hon. Olotu therefore called on all APC members, delegates and supporters to come out massively on Saturday to support President Tinubu at the presidential primary, stressing that sustained support for the President would further consolidate the gains of the Renewed Hope Agenda and accelerate national progress.”
Olotu reaffirmed his commitment to the ideals of the APC, emphasising that the party remains rooted in justice, fairness and internal democracy.
