The Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority has secured critical community support for the Quality Bus Corridor Package 1 project, which will transform the Ketu Lay-by (Demurin Bound) into a world-class, modern bus terminal.
Following a high-level engagement with the leadership of Agboyi-Ketu on Thursday, the session finalised plans for the project, which is a key component of the Ketu–Alapere–Akanimodo corridor.
The development is expected to eliminate traffic bottlenecks and provide a structured, dignified environment for thousands of commuters.
The engagement was attended by community leaders, led by the Oba of Ketu-Kosofe, Dr Oba Isiaka Balogun.
Representing the local government administration were the Vice Chairman of Agboyi-Ketu LCDA, Ganiu Fatai; the Secretary to the Local Government, Tajudeen Akinyemi; and the Leader of the Legislative Arm, Aderoju Adekunle.
Other dignitaries included the Majority Leader, A. Rahman; Special Adviser on Youth and Community, Mutiu Kalejaiye; and several ward councillors, including Fatai Akinyemi, Kazeem Balogun, and Chief Whip, Mashood Fashanu.
Briefing stakeholders, Femi Fayombo said contractors were ready to mobilise to the site, noting that while the terminal modernisation expanded the original project scope, the Lagos State Government had committed to it as a direct intervention to improve the quality of life and transport efficiency in the Ketu axis.
Speaking on behalf of the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Transportation, the Director of Transport Policy and Coordination, S.A. Agbomeji, outlined the operational framework for the project.
He stressed that the success of the initiative would depend on mutual agreement between the government and the community.
A formal commitment is expected to be signed to ensure that market women and traders vacate road shoulders and move into designated stalls, to ensure safety and prevent obstruction of the project site.
Non-regulated transport operators are also expected to adhere strictly to designated loading and off-loading zones to prevent a return of gridlock.
The Ketu modern bus terminal forms part of the broader Lagos Strategic Transport Master Plan, which aims to integrate bus, rail, and water transport systems into a unified urban mobility network.
