An Anambra-born industrialist and chairman of Mekens Integrated Nigeria Ltd, Chief Ikenna Anthony Obele, has been nominated as the 2025 Anambra Business Icon of the Year.
The organisers, Anambra Man of the Year (AMTY) Awards, conveyed the nomination in a letter signed by the Chairman of the Planning Committee, Rev. Sr. Prof. Eugenia Adaoma Igwedibia, and the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Anambra State Council, Dr. Emeka Odogwu.
According to the organisers, the award will be formally presented at the fifth edition of the AMTY Awards scheduled to hold in Awka, Anambra State.
They stated that Obele’s selection followed his contributions to business development and entrepreneurship, noting that his company, Mekens Integrated Nigeria Ltd, has grown into a major player across construction, real estate, hospitality, and oil and gas.
The organisers also cited his philanthropic interventions, including support for education, youth empowerment, and community development initiatives, as factors that informed the nomination.
“The award recognises individuals and organisations that have brought honour and distinction to Anambra State through their achievements,” the statement said.
Obele, who holds the traditional title of “Okwunze Aguata,” has business interests that cut across Nigeria and South Africa, with investments in construction, logistics, hospitality, and the downstream oil sector.
His recent infrastructure interventions include road projects in parts of Anambra State aimed at improving connectivity and supporting local economic activities.
The AMTY Awards, now in its fifth edition, recognises notable Anambra indigenes and brands for excellence and impact across various sectors.
Past recipients include prominent figures in business, academia, religion, and entertainment, as well as leading indigenous brands.
The organisers said details of the award ceremony would be communicated to nominees in due course.
