A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, Dan Ulasi, has said Nigerians would be filled with hope for the country if they listened to former Anambra State governor Peter Obi speak privately.
Ulasi stated this in an interview on Arise TV on Thursday.
“If you listen to Peter Obi one-on-one, you will have hope for this country. You will have tremendous hope that somebody has a concept of what he wants to do and how he will do it for the overall benefit of our people,” he said.
The PDP stalwart made the remarks after confirming that Obi had visited his residence four times in 2026 alone, most recently after an appearance at Coal City University in Enugu.
“He just gave me about 30 minutes’ notice that he was coming. And I called a couple of my friends, some top Southeasterners who were in town. And they came,” he said.
Ulasi stopped short of announcing any formal political alignment between them, but said his relationship with Obi dated back to his time as chairman of the National Republican Convention, when Obi ran for the governorship of Anambra State.
He said, “I’ve known him since I was chairman of the National Republican Convention when he ran for governorship in Anambra State. And since then, this year alone, he’s been to my house about four times.
“And when I look at the party, you know, when I started saying, I said the party, PDP, has a problem. We’re a faction, and I don’t see how a candidate with credibility will emerge to stop Tinubu. And the process Wike is going through also will not help the system.
“So I don’t see my party as presently constituted challenging Tinubu with Wike as national leader. These are part of the contradictions, which if I’m not properly informed and explained to, I will leave the party. And I want to be quoted accurately.”
The chieftain’s remarks came amid his growing frustration with the PDP, which he said lacked the capacity to mount a credible challenge against President Bola Tinubu in 2027 as long as Nyesom Wike remained its national leader.
