The Yoruba Commitment Group has welcomed the return of activist, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, describing him as a symbol of courage and resistance against insecurity in the South-West.

In a press statement on Wednesday, the group said Igboho’s actions in confronting repeated attacks on Yoruba communities had earned him lasting respect and gratitude across Yorubaland and beyond.

Signed by the Convener, Otunba Tayo Onayemi, alongside Chief Dr Olugbenga Oyewusi, Mrs Buky Tunde Oshunrinde, Barrister Akeem Aponmade (Secretary), and Dr Olukayode Olunuga, the statement hailed Igboho as “a worthy son of Oduduwa who stood up when many remained silent.”

The group noted that Igboho’s return marked a significant moment in the collective struggle against what it described as unchecked violations of lives, farmlands and communities in the region.

“Before our very eyes, the hunter became the hunted, yet he refused to bow. His courage rekindled the pride of a people long bruised by insecurity and humiliation,” the statement read.

The organisation also commended Yoruba monarchs for their roles in securing Igboho’s release and return, describing their intervention as timely and statesmanlike.

“Our royal fathers saw to the loosening of the noose around the neck of a worthy son. For this, we offer profound gratitude,” the group added.

The Yoruba Commitment Group called on Yoruba sons and daughters at home and in the diaspora to continue supporting efforts aimed at safeguarding lives, dignity and heritage in the region.

It concluded by welcoming Igboho back to Nigeria and to what it termed “the freedom struggle of Yorubaland,” pledging that his sacrifices would not be forgotten.
