Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, on Tuesday held a closed-door meeting with the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, amid escalating claims of a plot to remove the monarch from office.

The meeting, which took place at the palace in Ibadan, Oyo State, comes against the backdrop of growing political tension following Fayose’s repeated allegations that Governor Seyi Makinde is orchestrating moves to depose the first-class traditional ruler.

Speaking briefly with journalists before the meeting, Fayose said his visit was in solidarity with the traditional institution, adding that the true situation surrounding the controversy would soon become clear.

“I am in Ibadan to identify with the traditional institution. The truth about the whole saga will soon be revealed,” he said.

Fayose had earlier alleged that the Oyo State Government was plotting to remove the Olubadan, a claim that has been strongly denied by both the state government and the monarch’s palace.

However, in a statement posted on his social media page on Tuesday, the former governor doubled down on his claims, urging Nigerians to watch unfolding developments.

“Those who are still in doubt about Governor Seyi Makinde’s plot to remove the Olubadan should keep their fingers crossed and follow unfolding events,” Fayose wrote.

He further alleged that recent accusations against the monarch, including claims that the Olubadan was involved in moves to impeach the governor, were part of a calculated attempt to discredit the traditional ruler and justify possible disciplinary action.

“They denied any rift between the Olubadan and Makinde after I made it public. But now, they are accusing the Olubadan of plotting to impeach the governor,” Fayose stated, describing the allegations as a coordinated effort to prepare grounds for querying the monarch.

As of the time of filing this report, details of the outcome of the meeting between Fayose and the Olubadan remained undisclosed, while the Oyo State Government has yet to issue a fresh response to the latest claims.

The development has, however, heightened political intrigue in the state, with observers closely monitoring the relationship between the state government and the revered traditional institution.
