The Federal Government has announced plans to commence the sale of state-owned assets to private investors this year, as part of its drive to attract foreign and domestic investment into the economy.

Finance Minister and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, disclosed the plan on Monday while speaking at the AlUla conference for emerging market economies in Saudi Arabia.

Edun said the government is currently finalising which assets will be offered for sale and the timelines for the transactions.

“The plan is to offer some assets in 2026,” Edun said. “What we have put in place has made Nigeria very competitive in terms of economic conditions and very attractive in terms of incentives for investors. We are interested in private-public partnerships and optimisation of our assets by having others come in and invest.”

The minister, who has been actively promoting Nigeria’s post-subsidy reforms, stressed that the country’s ongoing economic reforms are aimed at restoring policy credibility, strengthening fiscal discipline, and maintaining macroeconomic stability.

Earlier this year, on January 22, Edun highlighted Nigeria’s focus on job-rich and inclusive growth, noting that investment remains critical to boosting productivity and expanding the economy.

Economic analysts said the planned asset sales could provide much-needed capital for the government while opening opportunities for investors in strategic sectors.

However, they warned that clear regulations and transparency in the sale process would be essential to maintain investor confidence.
