Di Central Bank of Nigeria CBN don drop update on newly redesigned banknotes, dem yarn say more go dey in circulation soon.
Nigerians don raise di alarm over di scarcity of redesigned banknotes of N200, N500 and N1,000 especially after di Supreme Court judgement wey reinstate di use of di old notes.
Di CBN, inside statement on Sunday for Abuja, yarn say dem dey “take delivery of good quantity of di redesigned bank notes from di Nigerian Security Printing and Minting Company (NSPMC) Limited”.
Ag. Director, Corporate Communications of di CBN, Isa AbdulMumim PhD, deny allegations wey tok say dem wan phase out di redesigned banknotes.
According to di apex bank: “di redesigned and old notes go continue to dey accepted as legal tender. Di money go circulate side-by-side for transactions ahead of di December 31, 2023 deadline, when di old N1,000, N500 and N200 banknotes go finally dey phased out”.
On di claim of plans to phase out di redesigned banknotes, di CBN advise “members of di public make dem n mid dat kain report wey suggest phase-out of di redesigned currency”.
