DSS get power to prosecute cyberstalking – Judge don rule
Federal High Court wey dey for Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, on Friday dismiss di preliminary objection wey dey filed by defence counsel. Di objection dey challenge di prosecution power of di Department of State Security (DSS) to prosecute cybercrime. However, di court don rule say DSS get power to prosecute.
On October 18, 2021, di DSS prosecute one teenager before court on a charge of cyberstalking.
Di defendant, according to di prosecution, allegedly engage in cyberstalking by circulating di nude picture of one retired Permanent Secretary on top social media after she tried to blackmail di retiree to paying her N15 million.
Counsel to di teenage girl, Mr Andrew Arthur, bin file Notice of Objection challenging di powers of DSS to investigate and prosecute di charge wey dey filed against di defendant.

Delivering a ruling, Justice Isa Dashen yarn say hin don carefully consider di submission of di arguments on both sides and di cases wey dem bring. Also, hin tok say hin understand them. In addition, hin yarn say he disagree with di defence wey tok say DSS no get power to prosecute cybercrimes.
