Panama Supreme Court don rule say same-sex marriage no be human right and di country no recognise that kain union, according to judgement wey dey published on Wednesday.

Di Panama Supreme court dey consider di issue since 2016, following several appeals from same-sex marriage couples wey claim say di Central American country family code dey unconstitutional. Dis na because e only recognise marriages between man and woman.During di ruling on February 16, di court yarn say di reality until now be say, di right to equal marriage no be aspiration, even though na legitimate one for di groups wey dey involved, and e no fall into di category of human right or a fundamental right.

Also, di same-sex couples wey filed suit bin want make marriages wey take place for other countries dey legally recognized for Panama.

However, di court yarn say “no matter how many changes happen for reality,” for now gay marriage “lack conventional and constitutional recognition.”

Di court add say di family code dey “objectively and reasonably justified for di general interests of giving precedence to those unions wey dey capable of establishing families, to give continuity to di human species, and therefore, to society.”
