Banks wey dey borrow from CBN rise 260% to N21.87tn

According to CBN financial data, deposit Money Banks wey dey borrow from CBN, borrow sum of N21.87tn from di Central Bank of Nigeria for di year 2020. Na through di Standing Lending Facility window and Repurchase Lending platform.

This data show 260 per cent increase if dem compare am to di N5.744tn wey dey recorded via di same windows in 2022

Di apex bank get two short-term lending windows for banks and merchant banks namely-Standing Lending Facility (SLF) and Repurchase (Repo) lending.

As CBN dey borrow money to banks and merchant banks through di SLF at interest rate of 100 basis points above di Monetary Policy Rate (MPR), dem dey follow borrow banks money through Repo arrangement, wey involve di purchase of banks’ securities with agreement to sell back for particular date and  for a higher price.

Di month-on-month breakdown of SLF reveal say di DMBs and merchant banks for January 2022 borrow N313.48bn from di CBN. But e later, drop to N186.48bn for February.

Apex bank financial data show say SLF data for March stand for N377.13bn. E later increase by 62.4 per cent M-o-M to N612.43bn for April 2022.

For May, di CBN report N897.05bn, after when di borrowing increase to N1.93tn for June.

Financial data by apex bank show N1.46tn and N1.19tn for July and August 2022, respectively.
