Okowa, Wike, others we give una 7 days to account for N625bn derivation refunds – SERAP

Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project, SERAP, don call on di nine oil-producing states for Nigeria to provide and publish details on how dem take spend di oil derivation refunds of N625 billion recently paid to dem bi Federal Government, including details and locations of di projects wey dem use di money do.

President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration recently pay di sum of N625.43 billion oil derivation refunds to di governors of Abia, Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Delta, Edo, Rivers, Ondo, Imo and Cross River states.

Di payments covered 13 per cent oil derivation, subsidy and SURE-P refunds from 1999 to 2021.

Inside di open letter wey dem write on December 19, 2022 by SERAP Deputy Director, Kolawole Oluwadare, di organisation tok say: “ publishing di details on how dem take spend di money na for di interest of di pipol.

“Nigerians get di right to know how dia states dey spend di refunds money.base on say na part of dia legal human rights.”

SERAP tok say, “ Publishing di details of di oil derivation refunds go promote transparency and accountability in spending of money wey belong to di public.”

SERAP tok say , according to di information, under di 13 per cent derivation fund, Abia State collect N4.8 billion; Akwa-Ibom collect N128 billion; Bayelsa collect 2 billion. Cross River collect N1.3 billion; Delta State collect N110 billion; Edo State collect N11.3billion; Imo State, collect N5.5 billion, Ondo State, collect N19.4 billion; and Rivers State collect 103.6 billion.

Di nine states also receive N4.7 billion each, totalling N42.34 billion as refunds on withdrawals for subsidy and SURE-P from 2009 to 2015. Di Federation Account also pay N3.52billion each as refund to local government councils on withdrawals for subsidy and SURE-P from 2009 to 2015,”

SERAP tok say,“ dem go dey grateful if di recommended measures take place within seven days. but “ If dem no hear anything from dem within dat 7 days, SERAP go take all appropriate legal actions.
