January 31 deadline no sure, experts warn CBN
Twenty-one days to di deadline wey di Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN set for di end of di old Naira notes circulation, di apex bank fit no meet up with di January 31 deadline target.
Nigerians sef don express dia worries and disappointment over di scarcity of di new naira notes and di way wey di apex bank dey handle di process.
CBN bin announce for October last year day dem plan to redesign, produce, and circulate new series of N200, N500 and N1,000 notes. Di three notes represent di highest denomination of Nigeria’s eight legal tenders.
Following di launch of di new designs on November 23, 2022, by President Muhammadu Buhari, di new currency notes circulation bin start from December 15, 2022, and di new and old notes still dey accepted as legal tender until January 31 deadline.
Findings show say most of di banks still dey dispense old notes to dia customers. Over-the-counter customers still dey collect old notes.

Some POS operators wey dey do business within Kubwa, Bwari Area Council of di FCT yarn say dem no get new naira note to give dia customers. Dem add say out of N100,000 wey dem collect from bank, na only N1,000 new notes dem see collect.

CBN still stand dia ground say di current series of N200, N500 and N1,000 notes go remain legal tender until January 31 deadline, and dem advise Nigerians say make dem go deposit dia old N200, N500 and N1,000 for bank before di deadline.
