New naira notes: Senate dey advise CBN make dem shift deadline to June 30

Di Senate yesterday advise di Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), make dem extend di deadline for withdrawal of old naira notes from circulation from January 31, 2023 to June 30.

Last month, CBN bin announce say di N1,000, N500 and N200 notes design go change to new colours. Di proposed withdrawal of di old notes from circulation na from December 15, 2022 to January 31, 2023 when e no go dey accepted as legal tender.

But di Senate, Senator Ali Ndume (APC – Borno South), dey suggest say make di apex bank extend di deadline to June 30, next year.

Ndume, for hin lead debate on di motion, entitled: “Urgent need to extend the withdrawal of old currency from circulation,”  note say di timing of di Naira redesign policy dey wrong and since di beginning of di implementation of di policy, di new notes no dey in circulation even for cities talkless of villages.
